They were also too young to stay up and play with me, so it was a pretty boring night. One time however, their dad came home early and he had a chess set on the refrigerator and he asked if i knew how to play. I said I didn’t but boy would I like to learn. This kind hearted man taught me some of the basic moves and played a game with me. Looking back, he let me beat him 2 out of every three games. Then he asked if I would like to play one more game before my mother and I headed home.
He said that the victor would keep the chess set! I was so excited and nervous! I used every bit of knowledge that he gave me and I won! I realize now that he let me won and wanted me to keep the chess set because he knew I didn’t have many toys. For years, I was so proud of myself for “winning” that game all by myself! What a kind hearted person!
